The Job That Nobody Did

The Job That Nobody Did

Here’s the story, titled “Whose Job Is It, Anyway?”

This is a story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody and Nobody. There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it. Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it. Somebody got angry about that, because it was Everybody’s job. Everybody thought Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn’t do it. It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have.

The things we can do may not be extravagant, but the simple can be affective and effective.  I’ve heard “The things that can be counted may not not count, and what counts may not be able to be counted.”

I’ve heard questions like “Did I offer peace today?  Did I bring a smile to someone's face?  Did I say words of healing?  Did I let go of my anger and resentment?  Did I forgive?  Did I love?  These are the real questions. I must trust that the little bit of love that I sow now will bear many fruits, here in this world and the life to come.” -- Henri Nouwen

What we do can have a great impact on others with amazing results, ones with outreach into many peoples lives.  The job accomplished can readily be just the fulfillment needed by another.

Be the spark that answers someone’s prayer, and makes something happen and changes occur.  We may be the substitute for the “Nobody” person and satisfy “Everybody”, “Anybody”, and “Somebody”.
