Koyaanisqatsi
Koyaanisqatsi
– (from Sabbath Moment by Terry Hershey) There’s a Hopi word: “Koyaanisqatsi”.
For most of us it’s easy to relate to: It
means “living life out-of-balance.” When
we’re all doing, without any not-doing, we’re “out-of-balance” human beings.
Half alive. Half here.
I
recently heard on a radio station, “Take ‘Do Nothing’ breaks”. We all need the restful periods, to
regenerate our power, lest there are many “out of balance” moments.
For
me, since my strokes, daily naps are helpful to regain the power to go on with
regular duties. The “off-balance” feeling
is so unnerving, that it throws me into “out of sorts” dimensions.
Placing
myself into calming environments and zones of silence is so enhancing to my
mind, spirituality, emotions, etc. There
was a time period when I turned off my car radio as I travelled to and from
work. I had not put an end to the freeway or
construction noise, but the quiet space in my car allowed me to focus and listen
better.
