The
“Think Weeks” Break
In Matthew Kelly’s “Slowing Down To The Speed Of Joy”, he
writes about Bill Gates’ “Think Weeks” break where he spent time without any
technology or society, in a remote cabin.
With no computer, or phone or wifi he had space to get refocused and read
many books.
This was in a section about those in academia taking
sabbaticals to get refreshed to handle their task at hand. When we take a break from our regular
environments and spend that time getting reenergized as well as to get
empowered the renewal within us brightens perspectives.
We could get weighed down by the normal duties that are filling
out our calendars, and taking up tremendous resources vital to us. Each of us may benefit from the “sabbatical” break
to restore power back into our lives that can be the enhancement we need.
A friend came back from a vacation trip and told me he was
going to stop going on vacations. He
would still travel with family, but he’d look for something spiritual in each
journey and they’d become pilgrimages.
That changed the perspective on my own travels.
